Gays seized at Boston library

BOSTON (AP) Undercover police have arrested 90 men, many of them teachers and scholars, who allegedly solicited homosexual activity in the men's room of the Boston Public Library, one of the nation's most respected libraries.
The men's room has been a hangout for homosexuals for several years, but John J. Doherty, assistant library director, said trustees ordered a crackdown after a barrage of
telephone calls from library users who complained about being approached by homosexuals:
Deputy Police Superintendent James J. MacDonald set up an undercover team and in 10 days, police arrested a college professor, business executives, schoolteachers, students and doctoral candidates.
Most were charged with open and gross lewdness, but a few were also accused of prostitution.
